I would like to draw your attention to the annual UWRF that will be taking place in Ubud on 23 to 27 October; this year’s theme is Karma.

Now in its 16th year, the festival attracts a wide range of internationally respected writers, artists, activists and performers, including for 2019: Tony Wheeler (of Lonely Planet), Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, acclaimed food writer, restaurant owner and chef Yoham Ottolenghi, bestselling author and New Yorker staff writer Susan Orlean, social historian Lucy Inglis, founder of the Jakarta Foreign Correspondents Club Frank Palmos and many many more.

In a Telegraph UK article UWRF was rated as one of the top 5 literary festivals to attend in 2019 and this year we have a record number of AS / A2 English students registered as volunteers, so you will spot plenty of familiar faces as you hop between events.

This is the link to the main website where you can purchase tickets online. There are substantial discounts for KITAS holders and for Indonesian citizens – and also for international and Indonesian students. There is also a Children & Youth programme with a series of hands-on workshops, as well as free events, art exhibitions, book launches and cultural workshops.

If you are unable to make it up to Ubud, there will also be a special event on Sunday evening held at Tandjung Sari in Sanur called Stories by the Sea. You may find the details here. For book lovers across all genres this is a highlight of the Bali social calendar so we look forward to seeing lots of Dyatmika families there!
