By Dyatmika Science Fair Committee

On the 26th of March 2021, Dyatmika held it’s fourth annual Science Fair – our first ever virtual science fair! This is an annual student-led event and a great opportunity for students to gain organising and leadership experience in the science field, which isn’t very common. Eleven teams of aspiring young scientists from schools in both Bali and Jakarta competed last Saturday.

Due to the pandemic, this event was held virtually, led by Samantha in Class 12 and her team: Kayana 11, Ashanti 12, Isabelle 12, Maria 12, Komang 12 and Lintang 12. Supported by Dyatmika’s PTFA, several sponsors and of course, our very own science department, this event turned out to be a success, despite the challenges faced.

This year’s theme was “Solving Community Problems”, with which we hoped would emphasise the importance of creative problem solving and innovation to tackle the myriad of issues our society faces today. Since the theme was broad, a broad selection of projects were submitted.

We are proud to announce that we had two winning teams from Dyatmika: our very own Hugo and Zak in Class 11, who placed 2nd in the Senior Category and Artemy in Class 8 who placed 3rd in the Junior Category. Congratulations Hugo, Zak and Artemy!

You can watch a compilation of all the senior submissions .

and all the junior submission .

Participants from Dyatmika worked extremely hard and attended sessions led by Lintang after school on Fridays, with the help of Ibu Made, Pak Christian and Samantha. We would like to thank Karen, Artemy, Tasha, Val, Hugo and Zak for always being engaged in the session. Here is a photo of our last session together and some of the prizes they had the chance of winning.

The organising team also had an amazing opportunity to go on a field trip to join a session held by Arka Kinari. The group learned different types of knots useful for sailing, got to climb the boat’s mast and also learned about the history of the boat and Arka Kinari’s mission to travel the world to share their art in a sustainable method. Here are some highlights from the trip :

Even though the event was online, there were even submissions from SD students, who all confidently filmed their science experiments, showing their enthusiasm despite the situation of the pandemic. So, thank you to Lewis, Kalani, Jacelyne and Nadine for your incredible submissions! If you’d like to watch the compilation of all their videos follow this .

Congratulations to all Dyatmika’s future scientists!

We hope to see all of you (and more) competing next year.
