We’d like to use this opportunity to remind you of the impact of reading on your child’s progress and wellbeing. A regular reading habit is the most effective way to improve your child’s progress across all of their subjects. Research* shows that reading for at least 20 minutes every day also has a hugely positive impact on their wellbeing, including confidence in their abilities.
Last year we launched Accelerated Reader, a reading programme designed to identify students’ reading ages; their key strengths in reading, and significant areas for improvement in their reading skills. This programme continues for Classes 6-9; reading ages will be updated via Term 1 reports. (You can refer back to Semester 2 reports for their most recent reading age score.)
English Teachers will run library lessons to enable students to access the new library resources and remind students of their Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) ranges to help them to find the most appropriate book level to help them progress
You can support your child’s reading by accessing the Accelerated Reader website with them, encouraging them to read and discuss their reading with you and by providing a space for them to read effectively.
