“Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.”
-Mason Cooley
Sometimes we forget how reading can give us a quick escape from reality and provide us freedom with our imaginations. During the Home Based Learning (HBL), class 7 and 8 students have been given the pleasure of having one period of independent reading every week. Students have been borrowing books from the library and ‘escaping’ from the screen into the imaginary worlds of books.
Apart from doing independent reading, they have also been tasked to produce reading journal entries. These are creative responses based on the books they are currently reading. Students can really ignite their creativity when doing this by producing drawings, reviews, biographies of characters, poems or anything that they see relevant to the books they are reading. Here are some amazing journal entries that class 7 and 8 students have produced during their independent reading periods!
Ava’s Character Profile of Paulina
Naia’s Journal Entry of Katnis Everdeen
Yuta’s Creative Book Review
Freyjah’s Acrostic Poem
