In Term 4, Class 4 have been busy working on their public speaking and presentation skills. Firstly, we have tried to raise the profile of reading for enjoyment through the students giving book review presentations. This gives students the chance to speak in front of others whilst also discussing books and authors that they have enjoyed. This has also given classmates ideas and inspiration for books and authors that they would then like to read. If you are interested, here are some suggestions from Class 4:
Secondly, we used Earth Day (April 22nd) as another opportunity to develop presentation and public speaking skills. The students were given the task of inventing and designing ‘Green Machines’ – a machine or something that could be used to make life easier, reduce the pollution problem or help protect animals and environments in a ‘green’ way. The students thought carefully about their ideas, what ‘green’ issue they wanted to work on, the materials that would be used to create their invention and also described how it would work. Finally, they presented their creations with the class and also answered questions in a professional manner. The results were FANTASTIC, CREATIVE and INSPIRING and we hope to see some of these on the market in future years – well done Class 4! Here are just a few examples of their awesome ideas:
