On 28 October, Class 8 had a special business talk given by Mr Nick Blackbeard. At the beginning of the talk, he opened by giving a summary of starting his rafting business. He explained how interesting and hard it was to begin this business. He repeatedly mentioned how important it is to have a motivated person that is dedicated to the job.
Further, he explained that he owns multiple businesses which are still surviving no matter this current situation, only for his proactive employees. Also, he described the importance of having the business lawful and addressed some changes which he and his companies had to implement in order to keep their businesses going.
For instance, to evade the crash of Bali Bird Park, Mr Nick planted trees in his yard to provide nutrition for fruit-eating birds, turned his pond into a fish breeding pool and created a rat farm to feed eagles and owls.
After the short introduction, the class asked Pak Nick questions (which they prepared before the talk) about how he is motivated to continue his business, how to identify a worthy investment in a business, what are some challenges he faced when starting the business and many more. Additionally, he remarked that we as students are lucky to be educated in business and the steps to create a business, for he had none, and he would have done a lot better if he would have the equal opportunity.
Moreover, he mentioned that the most important thing in having a business is enjoying it and never saying something is impossible because it is not.
