Saturday 1 Feb 2020 was a big weekend for Science at Dyatmika. Thirteen teams of aspiring young scientists from six different schools in Bali competed in our annual Science Fair. Once again, this event was organised by Class 12 students and was supported by Dyatmika’s PTFA, several generous sponsors and the Dyatmika Science department.
This year’s event had the theme of ‘sustainability’. The judges agreed that this year’s projects were of an extremely high standard. All of the projects on show were not only creative and scientific but they also demonstrated a real potential to become future environmentally-friendly businesses.
Congratulations go to all participating teams. The judges had a hard time deciding the winners, but they were:
The Winner of the Senior Category
“Canang Sari As An Alternative To Natural Charcoal”
By Sekolah Lentera Kasih (SLK) team
The Winner of the Junior category
“Is Soap Nut Extract As Effective As Commercial Soap?”
By Bali Island School team
Artemy (7Y) was the Junior runner-up for his project investigating water desalination processes and he also won the prize for the most aesthetically pleasing presentation. In third place was Azalea, Alisha, Eli and Nikola (7X) who investigated the best fertilizers. They found out that egg shells are the best from their investigation, so don’t bin your egg shells! In the Senior category, Lintang (Class 11) came in at 3rd place.
Congratulations Dyatmika’s future scientists!
Primary Fun Science Workshop
Along with the Science Fair, we also conducted a fun science workshop for primary students that aimed to nurture the love of science through fun experiments. We showed them that science is not just a challenging subject they learn about in the classroom! The fun science workshop invited some local primary schools around the Kesiman area and thus the experiments were delivered in Indonesian. It was also a good opportunity for our primary students to share their good practices in the school and broaden their network outside.
