In PE we have been very busy. The students have been taking part in a Daily Activity Challenge and have enjoyed trying out fun, new activities at home. The Daily Activity Challenge is posted everyday for Classes 1-5 and 6-10 in Google classrooms. This is to encourage students to do something active everyday, not just during PE lessons. It is more important than ever at this time, as they are not able to move as much as they normally would during snack, lunch and Extracurricular time.

In Primary, the students have embraced the opportunity to get fit, try new things and be creative. Highlights include the class Hip Hop dance (via Google Meet), the homemade obstacle course, interactive coin toss fitness and the chance to beat a number of World Records.

In High School, many students have been pushing themselves to improve their strength, speed and cardiovascular endurance from home. Daily workouts as well as fun, challenging class activities, make this lesson one that students can continue their physical development as well as maintaining their mental health through releasing stress. We would also like to remind the students that use of cameras is important so in some cases you can do a workout along with the PE teachers.

Below is an example of PE at home during Class 8 Physical Education. Students were asked to follow a workout at home and show and demonstrate the exercises they were doing. So the use of webcams helps the students motivate themselves by seeing what others in the class are doing.

The most important issue with physical activity from home is your self motivation. So try to stay in a routine of doing something at the same time every day. You should be doing around 20 minutes of some form of exercise every day to get your heart pumping. So you are the one that has to stay motivated and have the energy and enthusiasm to get
up and do it!

We would also like to encourage all family members to get involved with the Daily Activity Challenge as this helps motivate each other. So we do hope you can all enjoy physical exercise as a family and some simple types of sports equipment would be very useful for your child’s development. For example a football size plastic or rubber ball, a smaller size tennis ball or soft ball. Table tennis bats and balls would be great to have at home too. These would help coordination, reaction time, concentration/focus etc.

So get up, get active. Don’t just think about it, JUST DO IT!
