Have you ever wanted to be more persuasive? Do you know any techniques to make your argument sound more convincing? As a part of the Travel Writing Unit in English lesson, Class 7 have learned about persuasive techniques and how to use them in making brochures and giving a presentation.

Persuasive techniques consist of DAFOREST (direct address, alliteration, facts, opinions, rhetorical questions, statistics and rule of three). We also learned the layout of a brochure which includes CHUBBFISH (colour/caption, heading, underline, bullet points, boxes, font, images, subheading and highlight). We then used these skills in a project creating an Island Resort. We prepared a presentation and made a brochure to convince clients to visit our resort.

On 29 January, we presented our island resort to Class 5 and 6 students in the Wantilan to be judged based on colourful and attractive brochure design, well-prepared presentation, clear and confident speaking, imaginative ideas and the ability to answer the audience’s questions. This activity helped us Class 7 students put our persuasive skills into action and gave a taste to Class 6 of what they would be learning next year.

So if you want to learn how to make a brochure, or simply want to make your argument sound more compelling, ask any Class 7 student!
