Visit potential study destinations.
While institution websites and chatting to alumni can give a good overall impression of what it might be like to live and study somewhere, nothing beats getting to experience being there in the flesh – to breath in the air and soak up the atmosphere of a campus and the local area. Making the decision to go and study somewhere for the next three to four years is a major life decision so it is a worthwhile investment of time to go and visit during vacation time if possible. Further guidance on how to arrange and conduct a campus visit can be found in the Dyatmika University Handbook.

Discover yourself.
The most important tool to help you make the right decision about your future is self knowledge and, with a bit more freedom from the demands of academic deadlines, the vacation is the perfect time to ponder a little more deeply on who you are, what you enjoy and what you are good at. This Myers Briggs-style personality test is a great place to start: 16 Personalities. You could also explore: VIA Institute of Character, 123 Character Test, HumanMetrics and My Next Move.

Do work experience or volunteer.
The vacations are a great time to get experience in a field of work that you may be interested in pursuing in the future through an internship, part-time job, work shadowing or volunteering. You will also develop valuable new skills, build networks, and develop a greater self awareness about your likes/dislikes and strengths/weaknesses. Plus you will gather experiences that you can write about in your university application essays and on your CV.
