This week I’d like to share a few resources that you might find useful as you and your child navigate the transition from high school to university overseas. Much of the content is US produced, but all contain valuable advice irrespective of the study destination.

• How to Raise An Adult by Julie Lythcott – Haims
• What Colour Is Your Parachute? for teens by Carol Christen
• The Naked Roommate And 107 Other Issues You Might Run Into in College by Harlan Cohen
• The Global Nomad’s Guide to University Transition by Tina L. Quick
3 WEBSITES
• Grown and Flown: geared towards parents of older students. Articles on everything parents need to know from career advice to “hook up” culture on campus. They also have a FB page with over 50,000 members.
• QS Top Universities: worldwide university rankings, but also contains study destination guides, admissions guides, scholarship advice, preparing to study abroad, and much more.
• College Parent Central: written by a mum and former educator, covers topics from the emotional to the practical and helps parents understand what their children might be experiencing during the university years.
2 PODCASTS
• The Crush Podcast: explores issues around the admissions process and the university experience itself, e.g. Episode 13: Julie Lythcott-Haims on Parenting the College Bound.
• College Essay Guy Podcast: similar to The Crush. Look out for: Episode 203: 10 Ways Parents Can Support Their Students Through The College Application Process.
