During the Singapore Art & Music trip last month, we introduced High School students to Singapore Art Week and a night at the Symphony Orchestra. We headed first to the ArtScience Museum to view the Fabulous Monsters exhibition. On display were a range of surreal artworks from contemporary artists who depicted the inner world of dreams. On Friday evening, we visited the Esplanade Hall to see the Singapore Symphony Orchestra play an anniversary concert attended by the Prime Minister. The music was utterly sublime with all instruments blending together in harmony, so much so that it sent some students to sleep.

On Saturday, we visited the Singapore Art Museum exploring the wonders of contemporary art. From this we headed to Deck; an industrial container converted into an urban contemporary art space to see the exhibition ‘Singapore Express’ by the renowned street photographer Aik Beng Chia. The exhibitions at the interactive Urban Art festival with live graffiti was inspiring. We also explored the colourful Arab Street lined with Indie boutiques, restaurants, quaint shops and the Sultan Mosque.

To end the day, we visited Gardens by the Bay to see to the spectacular light show and passed by the Light to Night exhibition in the Civic District. Sitting on the grass with aching feet and watching the surreally animated projections over traditional buildings was a perfect end to an amazing day. A huge thank you to all the Dyatmika students who participated in the trip for their impeccable behaviour and making it a weekend to remember. Visit @sekolahdyatmika on Instagram for more pictures.
