On October 27, 2022, Class 6x worked together at a Writing workshop with an author from the Ubud Writers Festival. We were plotting a story of an island.
The author (Beth Cregan) came a bit late but as soon as she arrived, we all were filled with excitement. I LOVE making stories so this is one of my favourite things to do, even though I’ve only done it once before. Beth gave us some options: either we do a continent or country, or we make a tiny little island. The drawing wasn’t very easy because you had to make a shape that was suitable and you had to really think of what you wanted to include in your island, probably also for picking a country/continent. I included a variety of features such as a cave, volcano, and mountains.
The naming part was the best because you could really use your creativity to create the name. The teacher said we could use alliteration, onomatopoeia, and rhyme. I made a quite mysterious one, The Clapping Cave. That name gave my friends and me a lot of questions such as ‘Who was clapping or what was?’ or ‘Is there a mystery behind the cave’s existence?’ and that got me really excited. Some people in my class already had the story planned out of their heads, and it was amazing to see how fast they thought!
After the teacher left, we had an extra 15 minutes to work on it, which thrilled me. Everybody cheered with exhilaration as our homeroom teacher informed us! Soon we had to end the map plotting, which was really sad for me.
Class 6x had a lot of fun! I think we might do it again.
