We are now well into the last term of the academic year, with so many events on and things to do. The students will be kept busy right up until the last day, as they too start preparing themselves for the next year ahead.

Today we were lucky to be entertained by the TK A students at the assembly and on Friday 17 May, the Primary and Early Years Music Concert will take place in the Wantilan at school, where we will all be entertained by every class.

Class 5 will be going away soon on the annual school camp. Apart from the academic focus, school camps are also centered around developing closer friendships, team-building skills, determination and persistence in completing new tasks and importantly, the skill of independence. It is wonderful to see the students develop their independence away from the parents and for them to start making decisions and taking care of themselves.

In the Early Years at Dyatmika, the students share their snacks, which is in the form of sliced and cut up fruit. When the students go to Class 1, their snacks are independently packed and brought in from home. In the space of just a few weeks, some students and/or parents seem to have forgotten that nutrition and balance is important. We all love biscuits and cookies, chocolate and crisps/chips, but are they necessary every day? What you pack for your children for snack is very important. If they get chocolate every day, this becomes normal. I have spoken with all the students about sharing their snacks and food too. Please discourage this; apart from being unhygenic, you are put in a position where you the parent actually do not know what your children are eating at school, or worse still, which of our students have food allergies and to what.
